Make Your New Year’s Resolution to Finally Climb that Mountain
Many of us nurture dreams throughout our lives that are constantly pushed further and further away through circumstance, sacrifice, indolence or fear. Things like learning a language, telling someone how you feel, writing a novel, learning to sail, or perhaps standing at the top of a mountain peak might have been on your bucket list for many years—make 2016 the year you do, not just dream. And there’s one thing on that list GoTrek can definitely help you with.
Maybe you’ve lived in Seattle your whole life and looked up at Rainer thinking that one day you’re going climb it. Maybe you read Hemingway’s The Snows of Kilimanjaro when you were young, and every since you’ve dreamed of the summit. Perhaps you’ve always longed to travel to a foreign country and explore its wilderness and terrain. Make 2016 the year you finally realize those dreams.
We have a number of different treks and climbs coming up in the new year, but if there’s something particular you have in mind, we encourage you to contact our GoTrek guide Craig Van Hoy—he’s climbed each of the Seven Summits, including multiple summits of Everest, and it would be impossible to list all his areas of experience. If there’s a particular peak or area you’re interested in climbing or trekking, give us a call—Craig will either help you achieve this dream or give you the name of someone else who can.
Below are a few quotes we found to inspire your journey—and if these are too cheesy, check out American poet Sydney Lea’s poem “Mahayana in Vermont,” in which she explores the nameless, inarticulate virtues of a long hike with her dogs. And as Mark Twain so famously said, twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines and start planning the adventure you’ve always wanted.
