Even our more seasoned climbers have questions, and if this is your first time on a Go Trek guided climb, you're sure to have them. We provide information about such things as experience levels for alpine climbs or international trips, travel times, itineraries and required equipment throughout our web site. However, if you can't find the answers you seek anywhere else, we try to provide them here! If you have a question about our guided climbs that is not addressed here, please contact us or submit your question online.
Travel & Insurance:
Can you recommend a travel agency? Yes, All People Travel in Clackamas, Oregon is very familiar with our programs. Call them toll free at 888-252-0088.
Do you recommend trip cancellation insurance? We strongly recommend that you insure yourself against potentially expensive difficulties that may arise. Trip cancellation insurance may provide financial relief should you be forced to withdraw from the climb before it even happens.
How can I get trip cancellation insurance? We regularly use Travel Guard Insurance. Call them at 800-826-1300.
Do I need any other insurance? Make sure you provide yourself adequate traveler's medical and evacuation insurance for coverage should you have a problem during the trip.
Experience:
What do you mean by "experienced?" Most of our programs require no prior climbing experience. When we say that "some previous climbing experience required," we mean that you have to have at least participated in a climbing school that introduces the basic techniques of snow climbing (rest step, plunge step, pressure breathing, cramponing), ice axe arrest and roped glacier travel technique. However, even our programs that require previous experience include refresher training as part of the trip.
I have never done any mountaineering. Which of your trips would you recommend? We would recommend either our Mt. Hood or Mt. Adams trips. A good start for you would be a two-day Mt. Hood program consisting of climbing school on day one and a summit attempt on day two.
I have climbed one of the Pacific Northwest volcanoes (Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, for example). Can you recommend a "next step" in my climbing progression? We recommend that you join us for a climb of the Mexican Volcanoes. This gives you a great taste of high altitude (17,000- to -18,900 feet) with minimal time away from work. It is also a great way to see a unique part of the beautiful country of Mexico.
International Trips:
How can I find out about necessary visas or entry requirements for the country I am visiting? Mary at All People Travel (888-252-0088) provides us with current information about entry requirements to the countries where we climb. In some cases (Russia for example), she'll process your visa along with making your airline arrangements.
How can I find about necessary immunizations for the area where I am traveling? As part of your itinerary, we’ll provide you with current recommended/required immunizations for the country where you are traveling. You can always consult the Center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov.
Will someone be there to meet me at the airport after I clear customs or do I just go to my hotel? Depending on your arrival time, we coordinate your ground transportation. We either greet you at the airport or arrange for your transfer to your hotel. The group formally meets on the morning after everyone’s arrival day. This will be detailed in your itinerary.
Private Trips:
I have a group of friends/colleagues and we have specific dates we would like to climb. Can you customize a trip for us? All of our trips can be run on a private basis. The beauty of a private program is you climb what you want, with who you want, when you want. We take care of the entire program.
Equipment:
Does Go Trek rent any equipment? Go Trek does have certain climbing equipment for rent. Depending on the trip, we designate with an * items on the equipment list available for rent from Go Trek. We do not rent mountaineering boots. However, depending on where you live and where you are climbing with us, we can help you make boot rental arrangements.
Where should I buy equipment? We can help you find a local climbing and outdoor shop where you can purchase the equipment you need. For further information, contact us.

Is it customary to tip your mountain guide? Tipping is never expected however earned gratuities are always appreciated.
